Why do you like anime?
« on: November 22, 2003, 09:11:14 PM »
No doubt everyone here likes anime, but I thought it'd be interesting to ask why...

Is it the storyline?
The depth in anime characters?
The music?
Cuteness factor?

Personally, I'd have to go with the plot and character development...

While I'm all for the eye-candy (superb animation) that anime provides, its really the in depth stories that are told that interests me.  I'm not into the "cute" aspects .... although Chobits is cuuuute! Anime in general has very little bounds. It takes the imagination to the extent. It tackles many themes and idiologies. So I'd have to agree with you ... its all about plot and charecter development .... Fan Service is just a bonus (LOL)

I'd have to say I pretty much like everything about anime. :D  Sometimes it can get a bit too random though, and stray away from any strong plot. But I have not run into that too often.

Cause my friends like it and I want them to like me.....jk
I like anime because its unique and interesting. I don't really consider anime a genre and I won't watch something just because its anime. If it sounds interesting, I'll watch it, its just the same as a movie or a tv show to me. Lately though, I haven't been too into anime. Its starting to get really repetitive.

It's not just the Anime genre that I like. It's that some of the Anime can show some things that live action series usually won't bother to show (like grossly exaggerated faces or some dude falling off a building) and will show things better than live action series can show. If it makes for a less subtle presentation, then it makes it easier for me to understand :). I don't think there are that many good reasons to not like Anime.

Well... I've never really been asked this. Hmm... *thinks*

I guess I like it becasue it's different. It's not like American cartoons, where it's constantly the same characters doing different stuff but there's no plot or anything. Bugs and Daffy just argue about rabbit/duck season, then Daffy get's his beak blown up. There's laughs, but it gets old after a while.

Animé has that. It's got a storyline, characters you can like, characters you can hate, nice animation... I guess that's about it. If there's something I forgot, I'm sure it's been mentioned already. ^__^

Well, what really makes anime cool is that it's in the format where you get picturesm yet unlike those written in comics and such there is a good variety, cool drawing style, and the plots are more mature. The japanese add in awesome humor with great plots in the manga which makes it interesting. Plus, they take less time to read than normal books. ^_^[/b]

Thanks to anime, I can say I've found another genre of music that I liberally immerse myself into.  Japanese artists produce some of the most kick-ass music that you just won't see in the States.  And whether you understand the lyrics or not, it's not something I concern myself with.  It's how emotive the words are to me.

Some of it is just so derned cute that I can't help but love it. Like Bottle Fairy. It's so sickeningly sweet and adorable that my teeth hurt just from thinking about it, let alone watching it. :::rubs her jaw::: Ow.

Mostly, I like the plot. My first anime was Bebop, and I picked a middle episode to watch so I had no clue what was going on. :/ But then I started on (everyone's favorite! lol) InuYasha, and I was hooked.

I also like the animation. It's good stuff. Colors seemed richer and truer to life, and there weren't little screw-ups here and there like I've sometimes noticed in the cartoons I grew up on.

Music was never a big factor in anime outside of Bebop, so I can't really say anything about that. It's mostly deep plots and animation that I love.

I forgot to mention. ^^;; When I read the 'screw ups' part of Venus' post, I remembered one thing that really bugged me about American cartoons:

The background always repeated itself.

Do we see that happening in animé often? No, thank Kami-sama!!!! Yay for non-repeating backgrounds during chase scenes or whatnot!!!!

I was wondering something odd then....

(its plot and music for me that makes me love an anime by the way)

But I was wondering, Jem and the Holograms was drawn in Japan, by Japanese artists. and by looking at the cartoon, It seriously was drawn extremely well compared to the american drawn cartoons in the 80's.

I asked someone at otakon about Jem, and they mentioned apparently Jem is considered anime... anyone else know about that? or are they just a crazed out fan?

but since it was drawn by the Japanese, does that make it anime?

No WONDER I loved Jem so much when I was a kid!

Jeeeeeeeeeem is truly outrageous, truly truly truly outrageous... :::continues singing to herself in her little 80's world where the Mets are World Series Champions and Zelda is available in cartoon form:::

>.> I should SO be an 80's chick for Halloween. Ahem.

Just cuz something comes from Japanese artists in Japan that doesn't automatically make it anime.... does it?

Anime is cool because... It's so much better than live-action TV and American animation.

My first anime was technically Sailor Moon (the butchered and dubbed version they showed on TV back in the day). It drew my attention because the art style and animation were so much better than the American cartoons I was accustomed to. To this day, the style and animation of anime remain one of the main reasons I like it.

But I also like it because things are done in anime that would never be done in live-action film. The outlandish settings, characters, and plots of some anime shows could never be accomplished in live-action. So I like anime because... it's a versatile medium, capable of relaying any kind of story, ranging from normal high school drama/comedy to insane giant robot fights.

And anime chicks are hot.
