My original video game music
« on: December 29, 2004, 05:42:22 PM »
Hi everyone! My dream is to compose video game music, like the man himself, Mr. Uematsu. One day... *daydreams*

So here is a link to one of my songs, i don't have that many, I wrote some for a game that i wanted to make with my friends, but you all know how things like that go...they never happen, but anyway here is the link.

EDIT:

Here is my new website containing all my demo mp3's, in a hopefully RPG style, thanks all!

http://www.mikecharlesmusic.com

please give it a listen and let me know what you think!

XD Oh man, after all the time I've been spending having random battles in FF8, I long to have the battle music alternating between the original and your work. That's great!!

listening right now.......(deciding)........ your music is very nice, i think it sounds like nothing i have heard on a game before, a new style, which is good. and atmosphere sounds very good in fact they all do especially darkness. it sound somber, and melodic.

Well, I don't know what was wrong with the link originally, but it's working fine now.  I also enjoyed that music very much.  "Darkness" was particularly good.  And also "Stealing - that really did give a tense "watch you step at every turn" feel to it.  But, I really can't say I was moved by "Atmosphere".  My thoughts were "Atmosphere of what?  What is this music trying to relate?"
I liked the character theme as well, but for some reason it didn't seem like something I would relate to a character introduction.  It seems like something I'd hear when stepping into a mysterious and ominous section of Castlevania.
The temple music is cool but - I know this will sound weird, but I might as well come out and say it - I hear some of the notes from "What Child is This?" and get these bizarre mental images of a temple mixed with a manger.

...your school is surprisingly popular. It may have something to do with the fact that Piano Squall performed on your campus.

Stony Brook? Popular? ... You have no idea how dirty that makes me feel. I always thought it was just someplace in the middle of Long Island that's only cool for forty-eight hours a year. :::sigh:::

Hey, that really hurts...i love stony brook...

lol just kidding i dont care, Im stuck here in grad school when all i really want to do is write VG music! DAMMIT STONY BROOK!!!

Anyway, thanks everyone for your opinions and suggestions...I wanted to also mention that it's not like i said to myself....I need a character theme...and then wrote what I dubbed the "Character Theme"...I thought of a half-assed name before I posted them...Pretty much all the music i wrote was written for fun on the fly, with no intentions scenewise...I have uploaded tracks with new names...based on a very short story I threw together to sort of make sense of the tracks and supply some sort of background for them...Think what you want of the story...I'm not a writer (of words, that is).

Anyway, Just wanted to clear that up...thanks again everyone!!

As far as "What Child is This?"...I have no idea what that is...

P.S. Yes, Michael performed at icon at Stony Brook...he was excelent!!!

"What Child is This?" is a Christmas Carol.  I've sung it many a times.

What child is this, who laid to rest,
On Mary's lap, is sleeping?
Whom angels greet, with anthems sweet,
And shepherd's watch are keeping?
This, this, is Christ, the king,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing.
Haste, haste, to bring him laude
The babe, the son of Mary.

But yes, it's a good style of music you make their, no matter what we decide to call it ("a rose by any other name...").

It borrows the tune of "Greensleeves", if that helps at all.

Just went to your  web site and listening right now. You will do well with  the game music or even movie music . Wish all game music sounded that this good!
