"Costume Ball"?
« on: December 06, 2004, 01:54:46 PM »
i wasn't to sure about were to put this topic so i thought why not go with general discussion, at any rate i have talked about this with my friends and we think that this idea i had was a good one. so here goes, what if there was a "Costume Ball". i put that in quotation because when i say "Costume Ball" i mean an actual ball with semi formal dancing kinda like the one on FFVIII between Squall and Rinoa. it seems that there are enough people in the anime/game community that are into no love Composed music, with the String Quartet's, the Brass Ensemble, and ofcourse the Piano. maybe it is just me but i think it would be cool to see Aries formally dancing with Cloud, or Seshomoru and Sango, or the Guys of Fushugi Yugi dancing with the girls of Tenchi Muyo, while dancing to the best that anime and game composition has to offer. now ofcourse i am not trying to eliminate the Rave, that is to much fun, but put this on the first or last day, and have people in there best costumes, i don't know why but i think it would be a good change to the Con's. let me know people.

I've actually been talking to my sister about doing something like this at our con! We were thinking that, with all the people on the forum who can play an instrument, we could even have live music if we got a bunch of you guys to come. ^__^ I would say 'us', but I can't play an instrument. (Unless you count the ocarina. But I can only play that by ear and I can't read music) It would be soooo awsome! Are you talking about doing this at a convention or as it's own separate function? If it was anywhere near me, I would deffinately attend! ^__^

me and a few of my friends were thinking about trying to do it ourselves because two of them go to the Art Institute of Washington. that would give access to alot of people who go to the Con's. however i think that if it was done at a Con, it could happen alot faster, then if we (3 of us mind you) were to try to do this ourselves. it could happen by our doing, but if it were to happen at a Con, it could happen within  a year, at least thats what i think. and i did give thought to asking what kind of instruments do we have on the forum? i myself play the Piano, but not on a concert level, just a small performance level for right now.

I need to learn to read music so I can play my ocarina in a concert setting. I just come up with stuff on the fly for the time being.

Ooooh that sounds so cool! :::pictures a dozen anime characters dancing those Elizabethan era dances::: Can I be one of the dancers? I'll get such a spiffy Zelda costume.... wheee.

I can play stuff, too. Um, like, high woodwinds (flute, clarinet, you know, "girly" instruments)... >.>;; We need someone to play a string instrument (:::scans the forumgoers::: I know you're out there.) or perc or something. Get my regal trombones in it, too. @_@..... I love trombones......

I think Seifer mentioned once that he plays violin. Someone said it once. I think it was Seifer. I could be wrong.

I wanna be a dancer! I took ballroom classes! It was better than most of the gym classes here.

Hm...well I can always pull out my Utena costume costume again. Even though I can't dance. XD 'Cause seriously, Luffy at a ball is just silly. XD Hm..Maybe Fuujin if it's a little like the FF Balls..

WAIT!!!!   Are you telling me you seriously think Luffy would miss a ball where there'd potentially be MEAT!!! C'mon now!

My costume would depend entirely on when this were to happen. My club has a cosplay theme every year, starting with Otakon. This year coming is Naruto. I'm dressing as Sakura. So, if the ball were to happen after Otakon next year, that's who I'd be. If it happens before then, I'd go as Kenshin and hunt down a Kaoru or Megumi (if there was one) to ask her to dance. ^__^

If Kim goes as Kenshin, then I'm wearing my Megumi kimono. And taking pictures of us dancing. And forwarding them to Ken-san. Just cause he would flip.

Otherwise, I think I might make a simple white dress trimmed in red and wear it under my White Mage cloak.

I attended an event similar to what you are describing at Metrocon in Tampa, FL, called the Final Fantasy Ball.  Unfortunately, they played a lot more pop music than actual game music...

Haha, that was the year that I camped out by the karaoke section of the hall and took over the mics with Sarah... XD It was like a talk show/variety hour with two random otaku who couldn't improvise. I would have gone to the ball, but it cost extra money and I also thought you -had- to dress as either an FF character or wear more formal attire.

Yeah, we were supposed to play at MetroCon, but things just didn't work out.  The idea of having a formal ball like that I think is awesome, and I'm just waiting for a Con to do something like that because we would really like to play at one of those.

I'll give you a hint: the backwards C-thing with a colon after it is the bass clef. ^_^
