Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
« on: November 08, 2004, 02:57:10 PM »
Oh my god... After watching the first ep of SAC on CN Saturday night, it inspired me to check out those fansubs I hadn't looked at yet...and low and behold, I wound up playing the opening sequence about 20 times before actually watching the episode just because of the gorgeous theme. I'd already downloaded the second opening theme a while before and it was beautiful, too.

Who else thinks that Yoko Kanno is the female version of Nobuo? Her music is so gorgeous!! Especially in GitS... She managed to take Russian and English lyrics, mix them with techno beats and operatic vocals and create beautiful songs. If you haven't already heard them, I'd first suggest finding and listening to "Inner Universe" (first opening theme) and "Rise" (second opening theme), both sung by a group called Origa and composed by Yoko-sama. Gorgeous.... *_*

Poor Ameria-chan, nobody is responding to your post.  So I guess it will have to be me – the person who is not a musician and still does not have a critical ear for music.

To be perfectly honest, that music struck me as so unusual I had a hard time taking it in.  The notes (and singing style) were just bouncing around all over the place, I couldn’t get a grasp on the pattern until I rewound the tape and listened to it again (yes, I temporarily tape those shows).  Once I heard it a few times, it started to grow on me.  But still... listening to that song was, for me, like trying to decipher hieroglyphics.
“Rise” was a little less confusing since I had already heard “Inner Universe”.  Don’t take offense, you have to expect some confusion from a person such as me.

^_^ No offense, it isn't -my- music or anything, and everyone's entitiled to their own opinions. That's what these types of threads are for. XD I understand it is a bit complicated, but for me that was mostly because of the Russian mixed with English. It;s extremely sifficult for me to sing in Russian since it involved too many constants and not enough vowels. XD

Russian is easy once you learn how it works. Or maybe I'm biased because I studied it since 3rd grade. I can't carry on conversations, but I read it pretty well, and can understand most of it. It's been a few years since I had it.

Oooooh, do you think you could maybe make a pronunciation guide for Inner Universe for me, Miyu?!

Eeee....Romanized Russian. It's going to take me a little while to translate it back to Cyrillic, then write out a new pronunciation guide, but it shouldn't be too hard.

Do you by any chance know the phonetic alphabet?

Eh.... Sure Motoko wears a leotard and a jacket, but I don't think it should be coupled with skimpy girls in skimpy outfits anime like Mahou Yuugi, Dirty Pair and Knights of Ramune. If that were the case, then Batou, Togusa and Bouma would be schoolgirls in battle bikinis and the Chief would be Master Roshi. >.>;

One other comment I’d like to add here – we should consider ourselves lucky that Cartoon Network left in the opening sequence.  Sometimes they don’t show it at all, and that annoys me.  I really liked the opening to “Inuyasha” – and they took it away  :(.

I hate when they do that! They also like to cut the endings off, which also annoys me greatly! BAH!

I just downloaded Inner Universe yesterday. YES! Yoko Kanno, in my opinion, is the female equivolent of Nobou Uematsu. The woman is a genius I love her work *cough cough* Bebop *cough* That's Russian they are speaking???!! Okay... that leads me to a question I've had for over a year now... what does Russian really sound like? I mean, some languages sounds similar like Spanish/Italian/Latin and a few others that I can't think of right now. But Russian... what's it supposed to sound like because whenever I hear it... I think the person is speaking Romanian or Spanish... Swedish... something. >_< Figuring out Russian hurts my head @.@ <---- (knocked out Kenshin complete with sounds)  BTW, it is a pretty song... I played it really loud for two hours before my mom told me to turn it down. ^-^

Last but not least, why does CN cut out the openings to some thing and speed up the endings to others? That's not fair... some shows have really pretty songs that non-otaku will never get to hear (unless i bring the cd) but still... not cool...

I think it's for more advertising time or something. It's still annoying, though.
