seriously, you can't do a damn thing on your own, you always need higher level people to help you with quests and missions. I think they made individual characters too weak, even as a black mage, I feel utterly helpless when I get attacked because my spells get interupted and I lose a 3rd of my health.

:D I've always wanted to play it. But alas, I'm broker than broke from this past weekend to play online rpg. I'm sticking to gaia and neopets for now. I think my pets are dying.  :(

I still play it casually, it's a lot of fun when yer a high level and can kill most of the stuff and not have to always worry about being attacked all the time @_@.

Yeah I agree some classes are must darn near impossible to solo ie; Thief. If you are a thief, sure you are fast, but everything up until you learn sneak attack just hands you your a$$. It's better as a sub job then anything.

I found the hardest part about XI was the unbeatable battle for gil. I never seem to have enough of it lol

Yeah, I'm currently farming crystals (nothing else I know of that I can do) to save up money for a 400k spell >.<

Well I would suggest playing in noob ville till you lvl up. Then once you get some lvls under your belt (at least 10) then move on to where you can party and start gaining more lvls.

But no new people start all the time.

It's not too hard, it just takes dedication and a LOT of time.  With the latest update my linkshell goes to Al'Tieu about every night to try to fight some of the new notorious monsters there.

As for the economy... yea, it has some problems... but with the recently added rare/ex items I think SE is on its way to fixing this... hopefully.  For making gil farming is about the best bet.  If you can farm Dark Elementals in Beaucidene Glacier you can make quite a bit of gil as they sell for 8k a cluster on the Seraph server.

FFXI's biggest enemy IS time. It takes forever to get anything done, I can't stand how long everything takes! I simply don't have the time to dedicate towards the game like I used to.

Ahh yes, staying up the entire night only to see the sun and think "I really didnt get anything done"  The best part of the game for me was just the whole environment the game created, even thought the game had some major issues I still loved playing it.

I still play, and since 3 irl friends still play as well I can't quit now. I had a great party last night on my black mage, so I'm still going! slower..but still moving. lvl 64 now, I want 68 so I can wear that kick ass black cloak.

I wouldn't necessarily say the game is hard, it just requires a degree of patience. Nobody is going to get to level 75 in a day, and yes EXP loss is harsh, but you have to deal with it.
