I haven't really watched subbed Pokémon, Cali. ^_^;; Though I did watch some clips that were taken out of the English release, like the whole epileptic seizures clip and Kojirou/James in a bikini. XD

James in a bakini... hmm...
So you call them all by their Japanese names even though you've never seen the sub? XD I sort of do that with Yu-gi-oh, 'cause I've never seen the anime (dubbed or subbed) but I've read some of the manga in Shonen Jump. So if I mention a name like "Anzu" or "Jonouchi" no one knows what I'm talking about, because their names were changed to "Téa Gardener" and "Joey Wheeler" in the show, or so I've heard.
And for the record... I am definitely NOT a Yu-gi-oh enthusiast. At all.

What's wrong with calling them by their real names even if you haven't seen too much of the subbed? That's still their names either way. XD Plus I think they sound better. Satoshi, Kasumi, Takeshi, Musashi, Kojirou! Satoshi was my first real con cosplay, too... It was so ghetto! XD!!

The Japanese names do sound better.

Speaking of Kasumi... I totally had a crush on her when I was like 12 years old. No kidding.

i heat the japense names its really weird how they stick with yugi and his conter part's name the dubd tottly turned the names around with that too i also read some of the manga in sj and i didn't like it as much as the shows, when ever someone was talking to someone i just switched their japense name with their american name because i am so used to hearing the dubd names! [does that make sence?]

I have no idea what Cali just said. But I think she's referring to the Japanese way of putting the family name before the given name.

(another on topic post?)

For an American raised on American animation, seeing Japanese animation for the first time can blow your mind.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen some admirable artwork/music in Disney movies and such, but when you see this unique and enjoyable artwork/music it really catches your attention.  And as far as development of the stories/characters, Japanese animation usually wins out.  When it keeps you guessing “what will happen next – I don’t know”, that can make you keep on watching it.

One of my personal favorite series made in America was called “Exosquad”.  I thought that could compare with the fine Japanese series.

Hmm... my stance on American animation is basically like...

A lot of it sucks. Some of it is kinda good UNTIL you compare it to Japanese animation. Then it sucks, too.

I think I deciphered this enough to figure out that Cali doesn't like the Japanese names because she is so used to the english ones. On that note, Cali, if you were to see an anime and the names hadn't been changed, would you still hate the Japanese names? Or is it simply because you're not used to them and for no reason other than that?

She is probobly just one of those people who only watch Anime on TV and has not seen original Japanese versions of the shows.  :?

There's no "probably", we know for sure. (And also no "probobly." =P) We've already established that Cali watches most of her anime on TV. Stuff like Pokémon, Kenshin, etc.
Obviously when you are used to watching a certain show dubbed, and then you try to watch it subbed, it sounds funny at first (in much the same way that a dub sounds funny when you are used to the Japanese voices). However, I usually have an easier time watching a show dubbed and then switching to the sub, than I do watching the sub first and then switching to the dub. After I've heard the Japanese version, I don't want to listen to mediocre dub acting anymore.

yah Z is right i never saw the Japanese berson of yu gi oh. so i have no idea what kiba's or yugi's voice sounds like in japanese! i probly would heat it! sence i am so used to eric stuart as kiba and what not and the same with kenshin i am so used to him having a male voice that i would not stand kenshin with a femin voice even if it does match his "cute side" yah thats it for me on this topic!

By now, I'm getting really accustomed to the way Cali types, so I can read her posts easily without causing any brain damage...
Which is kind of scary, really.  :|
