Addictive Anime

Despite the actual quality of the plot, there are some anime that have an incredible addictive power.  Pokemon is one such anime, I sadly admit I was hooked for years and could pretty much sing the entire pokesong, lol.  Naruto, however... not only is the plot great, but I think it is even more addictive than Pokemon.  I recently watched 12 episodes in a row, which is a total of about 360 minutes of non-stop anime, before my friend pulled me away.  I was not cooperative.  Normal cartoons are not addictive at all, so makes anime so addictive?  Is it the cuteness?

Yeah!! Finally got you hooked on Naruto, huh? XD Now you just have to see some good One Piece. ^_^

I think it's a combination of the beautiful animation, the in-depth stories, the beautiful musical scores, and the fact that there's a genre for everyone.

I personally think it's subliminal messaging or something. I was addicted to Chobits ever since I first heard "Let Me Be With You." That has to be some kind of weird brainwashing or something.

Then again, Ameria-chan might be right.

Haha, I can believe in subliminals, too. Like "Dark Side of the Moon" and the Utena movie synching. *nodnod*

:::sings::: Dakishimetai no niiiiiiiiiiiii... LOL Chobits had the SAME effect on me. Never mind the first time I actually watched Chobits was when I was working a two-hour showing.

I couldn't stop watching Ayashi no Ceres, either, I was GLUED to the TV. :::giggles::: Me and Alex, both. One of us had to go to class -- reluctantly -- and the other continued, but then whoever it was that watched ahead was not allowed to go further until the other caught up nor were they allowed to give spoilers. I swear, though, I can't remember if I watched or went to class. I probably watched. XD But we went through the ENTIRE series in two days.... it was very scary.

Bottle Fairy sucked me right in because of its insane cuteness.

Bobobobo Bobobo also had me staring at the TV for an hour and a half once; I think I was trying to get some meaning out of it? I don't know. It even started making sense. XD That's when I decided to go to class because it Bobobo was rotting my brain.

And, I'm admitting, which is the first step in solving my problem, I'm a Yu-Gi-Oh! junkie. I mean JUNKIE. As a back-to-school present last year, two of my friends got me loads of YGO stationary: I mean, one-subject notebooks, pencils, folders, a binder, a ruler... you name it, I've got it. These same friends also bought me a fleece blankie and -- :::laughs::: -- towels for the winter holidays. I even saw the stupid movie, I live for Saturday mornings... -_- It's beyond pathetic. I never actually got the hang of playing the stupid TCG though. :::stands up::: Hi. I'm Venus, and I have a Yu-Gi-Oh! problem. "Hi, Venus."

Oh man... When I got all of Card Captor Sakura and both movies, I had a MARATHON. I watched them ALL without a significant break.

I think it's also addictive because it turns your brain to mush. Like I watched all of Serial Experiments Lain in one sitting...something you should never do if you value your brain cells, because it can blow your mind. x.x

I think what's so addictive about anime that you don't find in most American cartoons is the character development. In most American cartoons the characters feel very 2-dimensional. In anime, the writer's tend to make you really feel for them, like they were real people who were your friends. (not that I really think that they're my friends... that'd be just plain... sad and pathetic...) They give them strong back-stories and aspirations for the future. American cartoons tend to feel like the characters are frozen in one particular period in their lives and they never change. They don't grow through their experiences. That growth, which is present in most anime, makes a character feel more real. Also, American cartoons tend to have things happen to the characters but the episodes end with everything resetting to the same state they were in at the beginning.

Then there is the tendency for anime to actually have an END! So many American cartoons just sort of stop because they got cancelled!   I HATE when a show ends without an ending!! That's really annoying!!!

Anywho, I think the most addicting show I've ever watched is deffinately Naruto. In a little over a 2 weeks from the time when I first discovered that anime, I caught up to the Japanese release in both the anime and the manga. (I watched almost constantly) Now I wait anxiously every week for the next chapter of the manga AND the next ep of the anime and in the mean time, to hold myself over so I don't go nuts, I download AMVs, look at fanart and read fanfics. And whenever Masashi Kishimoto-sama takes a week off on the manga, or the series gets pre-empted for some sporting event, I feel like the world has just ended! Yeah.... I got it bad.

x.X ouchies

I think the most addictive anime are definitely the shows based on shonen manga. They always leave you hanging, with their big fight scenes that take several chapters/episodes to finish. I know that I was addicted to DBZ back in the day (like, when I was 12 and I watched the dub on Toonami) and now I'm addicted to Naruto. I have a feeling the same thing would happen if I watched One Piece or Rurouni Kenshin.

And I'm addicted to FMA right now because it's almost over and I'm absolutely DYING waiting for the end. It just keeps getting better and better, just when you think the show can't really get any better, the next episode completely amazes you.

I'm also addicted to Samurai Champloo right now, just cause it's so good. I'll probably cry when it ends, not because the ending was sad, but because I won't be able to watch the new episode each week anymore...
Who knows, that might be the kind of show that they would make a sequel to like Gundam SEED, but... I doubt it. *SPOILER* It'll probably end like Cowboy Bebop with one of the main characters dying.

I plowed through Ken-san's dvds of Rurouni Kenshin when he first loaned them to me, even though season 3 is entirely filler episodes that attempted to buy time while the next story arc was supposedly being written. It's a shame that such a good show kinda trailed off to nothingness like that.

When I was in 7th grade, I could list all 151 Pokémon from memory. First I would list all 15 of the different types of Pokémon from the video games:
Normal
Flying
Fire
Water
Grass
Lightning
Poison
Bug
Ground
Rock
Fighting
Psychic
Ghost
Ice
Dragon

Then I would just assign each Pokémon to one of its types, and in that fashion I could list all 151 with no help. Crazy, eh? I thought it was pretty cool at the time. Actually I still think it's pretty cool... but I can't do it anymore.

...freak. XD I used to be able to name the first fifty or so Pokémon in order. I can't do it anymore, I think it's more like fifteen, now. I can still name the first 50+ elements of the Periodic Table in order, though![/geek]

Haha, I could name quite a few Pocket Monsters in Japanese and English. XD I was even in a Pokémon message board RP, only ours was cool because there was a lot of action. I ended up becoming a co-leader of the main group of heroes, known as the Legion of Semi-Enthusiastic Roleplaying Simians (L.O.S.E.R.S.) XD
