Ooooh!
I really love everyone from One Piece: Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Ussopp, Sanji,  Tony Tony Chopper.... although I have not heard much of Niko Robin yet, but I hope to do so soon!
Everyone should check out One Piece! The music is amazing, as well!

It's basically a story about pirates!
But it's a lot more than that.... it revolves around a boy named Monkey D. Luffy, searching for the legendary One Piece on the grand line. He sails the seas, gathering comrades, crewmembers, and meets all sorts of awesome people. He also ate the devil's fruit, a fruit that contains superhuman qualities, but the person who eats it can no longer swim. (Water is his weakness, kind of like kryptonite). But the fruit gave him the power of a rubber human, so he can stretch and stuff.
But really, the most appealing aspect is the friendship aspect. It's so awesome and fun!
    Please watch One Piece!

Pikacello...you rule. One Piece is my co-favorite anime/manga of all time, along with Slayers. Luffy and Ameria are my two ultimate favorite characters, though I figured Ameria was a given. ^_^

Well, he's not quite an anime character, but my favorite character from any game or anime overall is Laguna from Final Fantasy VIII. He is sooo cute, and has the most adorable personallity. And then there's Yuna of course. But I should think that was obvious  :)

Is there a lot of character development for kenshin? I have only seen the first 20 or so episodes of the series, and I know it is very long. He is a good character already, but I am wondering what they do with all those episodes later on.

Well of course Kenshin's personality doesn't change, he's always the wandering samurai...

He does grow and mature, although it's kinda hard to equate with say... Sen from Spirited Away.

I dunno if I'd call it character development... but the "Kenshin Group" does grow and mature in pretty much every sense, right down to the individual members.

I think you'll see the most growth out of Yahiko, obviously 'cause he's a kid, but nevertheless, the most character development is there.

For those who have seen the full series.. if you disagree with me about that... well.. I'd love a dicussion... feel free to PM me.

As for the later episodes...

Season 1 - Several blocks of episodes, sorta like mini-stories
Season 2 - A series of mini-plots built on a prominent main plot
Season 3 - Back to Season 1 style

The OVA's are really good..
OVA 1 puts everything into context and OVA 2 ends the storyline... The ending for Season 3 was... bleh.

The movie takes place somewhere between season 2 and 3, and it's pretty good, although it doesn't compare in the least to OVA 2.

I've gotta go with Goten and Trunks from DBZ because they're just so friggin' funny!  And they kick ass too.  Also, from Spirited Away the little fly and rat that the bird and baby get turned into don't say anything, but they've got SO much personality.  They're great!  They seriously steal every scene they're in.  It's amazing how the animators did so much with such minor characters.

But of course since I'm a child of the 80's, I've gotta go with the greatest Japanese import of all time, TRANSFORMERS and the sworn enemy of Megatron, the fearless leader of the Autobots, and sole possessor of the matrix of leadership: OPTIMUS PRIME!!!
