I don’t know if modern day sewing machines are any easier, but with my mother’s old Montgomery Ward model threading the machine is pretty complicated. You have to put the thread from the spool through six separate hooks before you finally pass it thought the needle. There are actually two threads being pulled through the sewing machine – you see, you have to wind some of the thread from the spool onto a second spool called a bobbin. But you don’t have to do it all by hand – you can just start it by hand and then the machine will quickly spin the bobbin so it’s ready in a few seconds. But again, you have to pass the thread through the machine just right or that won’t work. But anyway, once you figure out how to set up both the spool and the bobbin, the rest is simple. Then you just have to practice a bit to get the knack of putting the stitches into the cloth.
I know this must sound complicated, but it’s doable. If you have someone who’s done it before show you, well, that’s better than reading instructions.
