The Forever Curse - MMORPG
« on: October 24, 2003, 10:44:50 PM »
roadrunnerWAN (7:18:59 PM): I was thinking if there was a game like rag
roadrunnerWAN (7:19:08 PM): where people had to build the cities
roadrunnerWAN (7:19:14 PM): that would be so much cooler
roadrunnerWAN (7:19:28 PM): Like a mix between Settlers 4 and RO now
jaychess900 (7:19:36 PM): If warcradt has housing it might be something like that
roadrunnerWAN (7:19:53 PM): no because it is not a MMORPG
jaychess900 (7:20:06 PM): I mean World of warcraft
roadrunnerWAN (7:20:14 PM): Oh
roadrunnerWAN (7:20:33 PM): Yeah possibly but you don't have to build buildings do you?
roadrunnerWAN (7:20:44 PM): And like you don't gain money because you make a shop
jaychess900 (7:20:44 PM): I guess not
roadrunnerWAN (7:20:51 PM): Like it would be awesome
roadrunnerWAN (7:21:13 PM): To see a shop that had weapons only because some guy is selling it to the store
roadrunnerWAN (7:21:35 PM): like there is absolutely no NPC unless it is owned by a real person
jaychess900 (7:21:49 PM): that's an idea
roadrunnerWAN (7:21:54 PM): So I could be like well I own that shop in prontera
jaychess900 (7:22:11 PM): ic
roadrunnerWAN (7:22:12 PM): Or I own that dock that takes people to the other contients
roadrunnerWAN (7:22:19 PM): I built this city
jaychess900 (7:22:24 PM): lol
roadrunnerWAN (7:22:54 PM): And you can build things by having lumber and maybe stone or iron
jaychess900 (7:23:00 PM): That would be great to have that much control over the economy
roadrunnerWAN (7:23:21 PM): And to get lumber you need logs and a place to chop the logs to lumber
roadrunnerWAN (7:23:40 PM): So like one person would have no idea whats happening on the other side of the world
roadrunnerWAN (7:24:04 PM): for a while there would be distinct areas of economy
roadrunnerWAN (7:24:20 PM): And huge migrations based on settlements or towns, or guraded towns
jaychess900 (7:24:28 PM): sounds like a gigantic 1st person game of settlers
roadrunnerWAN (7:24:44 PM): Even towns would have monsters if the town owner does not hire NPC guards
roadrunnerWAN (7:25:16 PM): basically but the beauty is it would have RO graphics
roadrunnerWAN (7:25:28 PM): And it would be MMORPG
jaychess900 (7:25:31 PM): oh
roadrunnerWAN (7:25:46 PM): Oh and dungeon actually get defeated
roadrunnerWAN (7:25:58 PM): Say you had a four lv dungeon
roadrunnerWAN (7:26:08 PM): well when some one beats the boss in it
roadrunnerWAN (7:26:42 PM): then no more mon spawn in LV4 and when there are no LV4 monsters then LV 4 slowly disappears
roadrunnerWAN (7:26:51 PM): And LV3 monsters don't spawn anymore
roadrunnerWAN (7:27:04 PM): and so on and on until the dungeon is completely gone
jaychess900 (7:27:13 PM): but all the dungeons would be gone
roadrunnerWAN (7:27:18 PM): once it is totally gone it respawns in a new place
jaychess900 (7:27:23 PM): ah
roadrunnerWAN (7:27:44 PM): oh and P v P is sorta allowed
roadrunnerWAN (7:28:01 PM): basically two people can agree to a dual with any amount of wager they like
roadrunnerWAN (7:28:16 PM): Like for every house or what not you own you get a title to prove it
jaychess900 (7:28:28 PM): ic
roadrunnerWAN (7:28:29 PM): You can trade these along with the home and stuff.
roadrunnerWAN (7:28:46 PM): I think thats the future of MMORPG
jaychess900 (7:28:51 PM): yep
roadrunnerWAN (7:29:10 PM): And classes could open up depending on equipment that can be made
roadrunnerWAN (7:29:28 PM): Like you can't be an archer unless you can use a bow as a novice for a while.
roadrunnerWAN (7:29:54 PM): so if there is no bow maker then you by godly can't be an archer
jaychess900 (7:30:02 PM): lol
roadrunnerWAN (7:30:33 PM): Like everyone would mostly start off as fighters, merchants, and rogues.
roadrunnerWAN (7:30:45 PM): those are three easiest classes to obtain
roadrunnerWAN (7:31:13 PM): And there are no quests just points that get tallied when your LV 10 to decide what class you will be
jaychess900 (7:31:28 PM): ic
roadrunnerWAN (7:31:37 PM): so you have to act like that class in the novice stage to be it.
roadrunnerWAN (7:31:41 PM): not to hard
jaychess900 (7:31:47 PM): ya
roadrunnerWAN (7:32:05 PM): then as like spell books get made you can attempt to use them and sooner or later you will be a real mage
roadrunnerWAN (7:32:42 PM): And once every year we would re start adding a totally new base map and having more things to do.
roadrunnerWAN (7:33:00 PM): so you never get bored of the same prontera
roadrunnerWAN (7:33:09 PM): because it won't be there next year
jaychess900 (7:33:15 PM): lol
jaychess900 (7:33:29 PM): have natural disaters
roadrunnerWAN (7:33:30 PM): well thats my two cents you like the idea think there is any flaws?
jaychess900 (7:33:35 PM): to clear areas out
roadrunnerWAN (7:33:37 PM): ((yep))
jaychess900 (7:33:44 PM): sounds great
roadrunnerWAN (7:34:23 PM): ((I was thinking of starting this is should be pretty easy to do with bad graphics.
jaychess900 (7:34:35 PM): yep
roadrunnerWAN (7:34:44 PM): the hard part is making it look good but if I made a working model it be awesome

Well I have started some of my first lines of Code on this huge ambitious project that may never make it much past Alpha or even Pre-Alpha, but at any rate. If I do get to Beta these are the Classes you can be. Understand I kinda used the idea from RO current system. You start off as Novice, and you have 6 possible classes of becoming they are Barbarian, Acolyte, Swordsman, Rogue, Mage, & Archer. Now in order to get the class you want you must have the most "class points towards that class." So you would see by level 10 something to the effect of "Barbarian = 2, Acolyte = -3, Swordsman = 8, Rogue = 1, Mage = -2, Archer = 0" To get these you must have made decisions that make your "Class Points" go up or down. They go up when you do something like a character and go down when you do something that is forbidden by a class like, Acolyte can't use swords or daggers or any sharp object so if you use these you will lose points. Any rate you became a Swordsman in this case. Now each class has a second lv class they are:

First LV - The Three Second LV Classes
Barbarian - Builder, Blacksmith, Guardian
Acolyte - Priest, Sage, Druid
Swordsman - Perrymaster, Knight, Dragoon
Rogue - Monk, Thief, Bard
Mage - Wizard, Alchemist, Magician
Archer - Hunter, Assasin, Ranger

Again, there would be points your aquiring to decide which one you get. Of course you had to make a choice sometime to want that class. So if you get the wrong one well then that must mean you were not like that class. Hope you get the idea. Anyrate I would like some feed back as to whether you feel these are good ideas, I just will never complete them, or if the ideas suck so bad I should never start.  8)

After Learning Java 3D for 2 days I finally was able to create the floor that players will walk on. Although, I can't say it looks pretty seeing as it is nothing more than Yellow, Green and Blue squares at the moment, it at least looks good enough for me to try to make a character a red box! My only hope is that adding an image will be somewhat easy. Lol easy, okay so it was a wish, because images and Java still have problems getting along.

Very intriguing MMORPG, a game that's almost completely run by the players could have a future. I also like the idea of how you achieve certain classes, it makes a lot of sense.

It does however sound like quite an undertaking, goodluck with it.

The Money System - Created by Jay and me.
« Reply #4 on: October 26, 2003, 08:53:19 PM »
what if you put a simple trade system in place?
JayEsthar (8:45:06 PM): like everything has some sort of value, and you can trade those things away for something of almost equal value
roadrunnerWAN (8:45:13 PM): okay you got my attention
JayEsthar (8:45:28 PM): a lot like how old civilizations traded before the invention of monetary systems
roadrunnerWAN (8:45:33 PM): I've thought about that
roadrunnerWAN (8:45:55 PM): but how does a weapon smith in the middle of no where deal with it hmm
roadrunnerWAN (8:46:01 PM): I got it
JayEsthar (8:46:06 PM): oh?
roadrunnerWAN (8:46:31 PM): So like you have these value items and when you try to buy something you have to sell an equal amount
JayEsthar (8:46:40 PM): right
roadrunnerWAN (8:46:42 PM): So its just like a complex trade but with an NPC
JayEsthar (8:46:55 PM): makes sense to me
roadrunnerWAN (8:47:03 PM): And the player decides what the NPC will allow for trade
roadrunnerWAN (8:47:20 PM): So like you might say no lumber I will not take that for trade
JayEsthar (8:47:35 PM): right
roadrunnerWAN (8:47:47 PM): that way the buyer and seller are both getting stuff they want / need
JayEsthar (8:47:58 PM): sounds good
roadrunnerWAN (8:48:24 PM): And later in the game when a town comes up with money basically by changing a bar into coins a dealer can accept that just like any other item.
roadrunnerWAN (8:48:42 PM): if he chooses too
roadrunnerWAN (8:49:01 PM): so over time it will go from just bartering to just money right?
roadrunnerWAN (8:49:29 PM): like a shop keeper could decide one day only accept Aldea money for payment.
roadrunnerWAN (8:50:16 PM): thanks I got it now I like the idea a lot, and I see a very smooth transition into a money system.

Good News
« Reply #5 on: November 07, 2003, 10:13:13 PM »
Well, good news although I have been working on this over the past several days.  Nothing yet compiles.  So whats the good news.  Well I've implemented the real UserProfile, and created a Processing Server that will communicate whats happening in the game include players and monsters (and sooner or later Buildings).  I have redid the FCGraphics to be runnable so that it can constantly wait for the server to send users' or monsters' moves while the actual program is still waiting for your response to move.  Monsters are based on a Small Hierachy, and each type of monster will branch off from an abstract MonsterProfile.  Also, currently, monsters never really die they just get respawned.  So this makes it so I don't have to provoke multiple "new's" hopefully this will increase overall performance.  At any rate all this is basically done just non of them talk to each other well so, I'm currently working that out.  I might have something finished and working by Wednesday, but I would not hold your breathe.

Another New Pre-Release Out!
« Reply #6 on: November 24, 2003, 01:29:59 AM »
Alright well I can't say I've gotten textures on anything yet, but that is my next goal for at least the map, and the normal person.  But Three little prototype monsters in great Red-Orange Boxes now move across the screen.  If you want a look you will have to IM me as the two servers that must be run are somewhat fragile and the monsters roam off the map from time to time.

I have had a person test it, and help me debug it, to where he had it working normal so I'm onto the next stage.  Well, I'm currently working on another Program that is a bit more important, and some Flash stuff for my screwy marketing boss, Gluck, plus with Vacation coming up in around a week or so.   ....  .. .. .. ... .... I probably won't be able to do any programming until January.

Yes, I am still working on this project not like anyone cares, I have already created the initial tables in a MySQL Database to hold almost everthing.  And I am creating a Java Application to access them over these Holidays.  Any rate I figured I say something.

While I don't understand all this technical speak very clearly, the game itself sounds interesting, I wanna design my own house o.o.  I kinda like the idea of the trading system, I play FFXI a lot and it'd be nice to be able to do something with all of those annoying useless items you get off monsters aside from just chucking them.

Don't worry, even after eight years of friendship I've never understood a single word out of that guy's mouth.  All I can tell you is that he's a genius and has an endless supply of motivation.

PowerPoint Presentation has been started.
« Reply #12 on: January 03, 2005, 12:17:52 AM »
Thanks, for your interest, I am constantly taking ideas, and while I doubt this project will only start to take shape after another five years of work, the background code will be a fundamental must for any MMORPG game of the next generation I hope.  In order to not lose everyone, I am making a *.ppt ( PowerPoint Presentation ) that you can look at to get a better idea of how the game will work.  If anything is unclear or incorrect or simply wrong, just reply here and I will try to clear it up here and than make the change to the ppt.  The background is Blueprint Paper.  I figured it was appropiate.
