a request for some advice

I'm going to assume the piano is something like a saxophone. vaguely anyways... Now the good thing about getting an instructor, is that they are HOPEFULLY more experienced than you are, and will make you try new things. A good teacher will make sure that you get the variety all creativity thrives on.
Example: I thought classical was where it was at, I mean, there were (and are) some amazing composers in the classical genre. But then I was forced to learn jazz. jazz scared me, it was weird and strange. I learned then that it was weird and strange AND brilliant and inspired.
What I'm saying is that technique is not all an instructor has to offer. Look for the diversity in style they can expose you to. It is, I believe, the most important thing anyone can teach you. Just trying to help.
