Harmony of the Lunar remake
« on: June 11, 2010, 03:40:03 PM »
Not terribly long ago, Xseed Games came out with a PSP remake of Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete for the PSX called Lunar: Silver Star Harmony.

Now, I haven't picked up the game itself yet, but I played the downloadable demo and I can't make up my mind on whether to purchase this or not. On the one hand, the lead role of Alex is quite evidently our good friend Yuri Lowenthal; but while that is very cool IMO, they redubbed the whole game, including the previous localizations of the opening song and, I assume, "Wind's Nocturne" (which our host has written up a loving arrangement for). It sounds like they were going more for literal accuracy with the lyrical translation, but in the process they end up with some awkward rhythms and lines that just don't rhyme at all.

It's just an odd thing to criticize all around, because Working Designs, the company that localized the "original" (and I use that term loosely because LSSSC is itself a remake of Lunar: The Silver Star for the Sega CD), did away with literal accuracy, favoring instead a more tongue-in-cheek script that, IMO, added much to the experience. So to say that this is a bad dub is difficult, because it is technically more accurate. Yet I'm still worried that buying this game and playing it might make me feel sad rather than nostalgic about the PSX game, which I unfortunately do not own.

What do you guys think about this? Has anyone purchased the game, and if so, how is it? Did you play the original?
