Favorite 2D Game - Help Needed

[Venus, Queen of Faeries]

I'm drawing a blank on some of the classics. Name your favorite 2D game and your favorite scene from said game.

Screencaps are VERY helpful.

Well, the one that comes to mind first is Metroid.  You play through the game thinking Samus Aran is a man (Samus is in fact referred to as "he" in the instruction booklet), then at the end when Samus takes off the armor, you find out that she's a woman.

Uhh fav well retro fans will shoot me for this but Loco Roco.

I am a guy through and through yet I play this and I sing, smile, and move my head. The game is nothing short of cute addiction.

Though tetris is totally close and i hate my roommate for topping my 11million score with 14million on my DS. I hate having to play for like 4 hours to get that score.

Megaman games were great (Megaman 9 came out recently on virtual console for the wii, so I bought it) and like the Super Mario Bros games were a lot of fun too.

Kid Icarus was fun but difficult and I liked a lot of arcade games as a child (one that sticks out in my mind is Sunset Riders)
