Has anyone else gone? (Pretty sure there's no *specific* thread for this.)
I had the good fortune of attending a performance last night, and it was AMAZING, right from the beginning! It was so wonderful to hear a live ensemble perform video game music, and even better to see so many different kinds of people in attendance. The crowd seemed to be mostly twentysomethings, who've all grown up on this stuff, but there were children, of course, and older people as well (I saw quite a few hands in the air when the emcee polled for people over the age of sixty)! There were gamers and non-gamers (my boyfriend enjoyed it), people in concert dress and people in jeans, and it was the music -- the MUSIC -- brought everyone together. I almost wanted to cry.
The performance itself was nothing short of phenomenal. Initially, I was on my best concert behaviour, but I couldn't keep myself from cheering along with the crowd when some of my favorite nostalgia-sparking tunes reached my ears (and accompanying video, my eyes). Even for the pieces I didn't know -- like the Castlevania encore -- I appreciated because the music was so well-written and well-played. The air was electric, and the energy level high and I would have given anything to be one of the lucky members on stage performing such music. How the concertmistress stayed in her seat instead of popping up with excitement is beyond me; I would have been pumped (I mean, I've STILL got Super Ghouls and Ghosts stuck in my head (and I kinda wanna play it now))!
Points for breaking up the stern concert atmosphere further with audience participation segments.
I very, very strongly recommend VGL if you haven't gone (and I still recommend it if you have. GO SEE IT AGAIN).
Here's a list of upcoming tour dates; be sure to snag a couple of tickets while you can!
