Composition Feedback
« on: March 24, 2004, 12:22:27 AM »
^^;  Hi, I'm new to the boards...sorta.

>>;  I just got one of my latest compositions recorded as a .MIDI on my Melfina Piano (a Yamaha psr-550 keyboard w/ floppy disk drive). I call it "The Curse of Eternity" and I need some constructive criticism on it.

If you would like to hear the song, IM me on aim at DarkEternalAbyss and I'll send it to you.

^^; Thanks.

^^; thank you...that would be a bit difficult though, cause half the time I don't know what the hell I'm composing, lol...  I just like a lot of songs in minor key. It makes them more interesting.

I usually just pick a theme melody and then work around that. In every one of my songs, there is a remnant melody of the song I made before it somewhere in the new song.  ^^; If that makes any sense. My openings are all soft and slow, usually played in the higher octaves of the piano. And then the song usually progresses louder and faster as it goes on and ends softly and slowly at the end. ^^; That's how I make a song, usually. and like I said, all my songs are in minor key and really sad sounding. Preferably C minor. It's just easier to work with for me. ^^;

I compose my own songs on the ocarina, but I can't write them down since I can't read music. I just sort of play and let the melody write itself. It just sort of comes to me. If I want to play it again later, I have to try to remember it. Which is hard, since my memory pretty much sucks. When I play a song, it's never the same as the first time. Every time I play it, it's a bit different cause I can remember the basic feel of the song, but not the exact notes. Am I making any sense at all?

How do you take an instrument for so long and not pick up how to read music? Isn't it, like, an requirement? I know my first week with the clarinet they were like, "ok, here's some exercises, we're going to play them now..." and then proceded to explain how to read the notes.

lol i was able to read the music when i was tekeing the classes but i just forgot it thats all and i kinda drifted off from being a music geek to being a geek in jenerial the two "electives" I take now are Computer Apps [which i think i metioned a few times on the bord already] and CAVE class. CAVE helps me look for a job whale getting credit in school, and if you already have a job you get extra credit. Sometimes its kinda boring, and sometimes its kinda fun,

But i don't like Computer apps cause sometimes my computer doesn't obay me.

reading music isnt all that hard to learn (i might be slightly biased, ive been doin it since 3rd grade), but that wont help if you dont know what notes your playing
but if your still intrested heres a site that does a pretty good job, it looks liek something you might find in an introductory music book
