Neil Gaiman

Neil Gaiman is a phenomenal author who specializes in mythology, but not in your typical "And then the fierce warrior turned to face the mighty Zeus" etc. kind of way.

I highly recommend "Good Omens". It's co-written by Terry Prachett, another sci-fi/fantasy author, and the combination was hilarious. It deals with the Biblical apocalypse, and while that doesn't sound funny, it really is. Who can't laugh when a demon threatens his house plants so they'll grow greener? Even the list of characters in the beginning is enough to make people laugh.
"Dog: Hellhound and cat-worrier".

"Anansi Boys" was another one that I really liked. It's much more serious, but the character Anansi was so wonderfully playful and a perfect trickster. It was crazy at times.

"American Gods" is FAR more serious than the other two. It touches upon practically every culture's mythology through a few of their gods. Anubis and Osiris are mortuary workers, the main character drinks mead with Odin, and modern deities work their way in, like the Internet. It's very dark in some spots, and a definite cultural reflection, but it's probably one of his most famous novels for good reason.

Then there's always the "Sandman" series from Dark Horse comics, but that would take pages to explain ;)

Either way, I really recommend all these books, and especially "Good Omens" for it's humor.

The Amano one was probably my favorite. It reads kind of like a children's book with the writing on one side and Amano's illustrations on the other. It was beautiful.

It was my first one. The Sandmans portrayal is perfect in that.

My sister is obsessed with him.

While in London, she got book 1 of the Sandman signed to her and  her fiance.

Between the two of us, we have almost all the books. I forget which we have left.

Didn't he also do something called 'The Eternals' or something close to that?

:::revive and doublepost::: Augh. I feel terrible for this.

So I saw Stardust in August, a few days after it came out in theatres, and I thought it was adorable, so I picked up a copy of the book (finally) yesterday. I read a little before bed, and some on my breaks between classes today, and I think it's adorabler. The movie took its liberties, of course, and I do like some of the original stuff better, but yeah. I can't put it down, and as soon as I'm done in the compy lab (still at school, I am. D: ) and studying for my next class, it's back under the shady trees for more readin'. ^_^

I had a test this morning, and I was the first to finish, so I pulled out the book and started reading. The test was only twenty minutes of a three-hour class, so the professor wanted to know if the book were anything good. I showed it to him. "Ah, Sandman," he said, recalling other works. "So you're a closet geek?" "Closet?" I repeated, smiling. "Not at all." and we chit-chatted during the exam, although briefly, about geekiness. My professor is officially awesome.
