Hmm, coupla things, since I'll be Sir Naruto and DBZ Defender.
Because Naruto is a disgrace to anime.
Not so. Have you seen Naruto without the filler subtitled? It's actually not bad at all. Some of the character development gets a little cheesy, but still, there's a lot of characters and a lot of change they end up going through, plus they tend to do pretty good cliffhangers. When I was reading through a lot of the fights, it was a toss up as to who was actually going to win, none of the "ZOMG I pull out another transformation and huzzah! I kick Zeus' ass!" They had some transformation, but the characters would adapt and change, and not really go through a transformation, just figure out how to work with their limits and fight. DBZ had hours of monologue, Naruto doesn't, it actually has a story and a push forward.
yeah.......uh.....DBZ falls in the same category as Naurot, IMO. Now I don't think people are stupid for liking it. Some people do and that's cool with me. "I" just don't.
Dragon Ball no one should bash, because Akira Toriyama is awesome with comedy. DBZ, eh, wasn't as funny, had a lot more action, filler was bad just like any anime. But grouping Naruto with it? Nah, not even close. Considering fights and character development rarely last past 2 episodes, it's hard to think of the two as the same category.
Few actually give Naruto much of a chance. The anime (just forgetting the filler episodes ever existed) and the manga are good...without filler, I believe the first half of the series (They've moved on to the second half, Naruto Shippuden) is under 100 episodes. There are about 20-25 episodes in the first 100 episodes, and after episode 125, it's filler up until Shippuden...If you look at things like Ranma 1/2, few can say "That was way too long, I won't sit through that many because it's over 25 episodes." It looks like just because Naruto is popular, it's going to get thrashed beyond reason. Most of the Narutards you speak of are dubbies anyway, who read the US translated manga and see the dub. If you've instead read the scanlations and watched the original Japanese version, you get a different view of things as well.
