This is why I try to avoid the current "fad" when I cosplay. But, the huge amount of Naruto cosplayers really doesn't bother me. I just only take pictures of the really good ones. I feel it's a test of a cosplayers' skill to try to stand out in the "Sea of Orange" that Naruto cosplay has become. So I feel I should recognise such skill with a few pictures. How sad that so many excellent cosplayers get flak for being "Narutards" (GODS I hate that term) and have people ignore their hard work or hate them for it simply because they took on the challenge. I, for one, have been cosplaying as Haku, from Naruto, recently, with my husband cosplaying as Zabuza. I'm not the greatest Haku out there. I don't look much like him and I can't seem to get this supposedly temporary (ha ha) black hair dye out of my hair. But I have fun doing it and getting a rise out of the fans of the series when we kiss in costume. lol And having fun is really point, isn't it? It is for me at least.
I used to cosplay Kenshin exclusively, but it was after the fad was mostly over. These days, when I cosplay him, I see, maybe, 2 other Kenshins in the whole con and it's soooo rare to find a Kaoru that
I can go all Otakon without seeing one. The con becomes "The hunt for a Kaoru to take pictures with" very rapidly. And, yeah, I'm a female playing a male. *shrug* What can I say? There aren't a whole lot of female characters that I like enough to cosplay. That, and Kenshin's outfit hides a lot of my chub... Most female chars have outfits that are waaaaay too skimpy for me. I'm not skinny enough to feel comfortable playing a female wearing anything tight-fitting or that shows a lot skin. But that's me. I've also seen some cosplayers out there who weigh a LOT more than I do dressed as, say, *shudder* Naruto's Oiroke no jutsu. (That's when he turns into a naked girl, for those who don't know the Japanese name of the technique.) That's just distrubing.
