For those who were not aware, the first episode of "Death Note" was aired last Saturday night on Cartoon Network.  And, wow, what a great start to the show.  Right away it shows you the realm of the shinigamis (yes, this time the death gods are called shinigamis rather than soul reapers).  Right away it shows you Light finding the death note and using it.  Right away it shows Light's meeting with Ryuk where Ryuk explains the shinigami world and Light explains his plans for the death note.  Yeah, that really started out fast.  I hope they'll be able to keep the interesting pieces of the story coming and continue to have a show that keeps my attention.

SIDE NOTE One of the oddities found in a Japanese show translated into English... Light's teacher speaks in English and then tells his student to translate that into English *chuckles*

Yes it aired on Adult Swim but the voices for Ryuk and Light are so much worse then Japanese
Not bad voices just not the right ones
Shinigami always should mean Death God and should never be called soul Reaper
I liked how it goes straight into the series it makes it more thrilling and cool

I thought it was funny as I was watching it how it did that

Well, Death Note has been finished (on Cartoon Network) for some time now...
I must say, that was an amazing series.  Even though it took place mostly in the human world, much is learned about the shinigamis.  And the people who thought up the story were very clever... they kept adding new twists in the battle between the Death Note users and the investigators trying to stop them... I won't spoil the ending and say who the last man standing was, but wow, things sure got interesting in that anime.

By the way, I just happened to hear a bit of Ryuk's Japanese voice, and... some people might think me blasphemous for saying this, but I actually think it's quite a bit worse than his English voice.
His Japanese voice just sounds so... so ordinary, so human, whereas his American voice sounds so creepy and fitting for a god of death.

It all depends on peoples tastes and what the right voice should be fo a character. I still like the Subs better then the dubs.

The Death Note live action movie (the second one) will be airing next week. I think you can google it or Fathom Events to find out where it is (they do it at select theaters) and ticket stuff.
