Shimakon has issued a detailed explanation of the situation:
The original organizers of Shimakon had arranged for quite a few guests to attend the convention. Now our convention is under new management, and unfortunately, we realize that we are not equipped to have Piano Squall perform at Shimakon 2006. This is not because he has asked for any type of performance fee; just the opposite, as he gives all of his proceeds to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Piano Squall lives in California, and we simply do not have the financial capability to get him here, nor do we have the necessary technical equipment to run the show.
Shimakon takes full responsibility for the cancellation of the Piano Squall concert. In our defense, the new managment of Shimakon did let him know that we would not be able to have him attend over one month prior to the convention, hoping that he would be able to fill in that particular weekend with another venue.
Piano Squall has been a musical guest at a number of the largest anime conventions in North America, including Otakon, A-Kon, and Sakura-con. We apologize to him, because he turned down an opportunity to perform elsewhere so that he could keep his commitment to us.
Piano Squall is concerned many of his fans may have pre-registered for Shimakon for the purpose of attending his concert, and he has requested that we offer a full refund to any Piano Squall fan who is disappointed by this announcement. If you are a Piano Squall fan and you registered for Shimakon to see his concert, please contact us for refund details.
We apologize to Piano Squall and the attendees of Shimakon, and we do hope to have Piano Squall back to perform next year. Nevertheless, we still have an awesome line up of voice actors at Shimakon, so there will still be a ton of cool stuff to see!
