Evangelion or Xenogears?

Because i think this topic will get more responses in this section, i've decided to put it here.........

however make no mistake, i feel with all that is me........Xenogears......without a doubt......

i've seen all of Eva, and i have to say, it's a........(and this is being nice)......pretty decent anime.......(knocked a few boards of some shoulder's didn't i).....yeah, i thought it was decent......i mean, the character development was nice, the animation for the time was really nice, not to mention it had some very daring idea's and concepts that i'm sure people weren't ready for........

however i didn't see Eva when it came out, i saw it on the Rebound, which i hate, i really do........

yet you know what i caught like a flu of the season........Xenogears..........and i caught it before i saw Evangelion.......and for those of you who have played Xenogears, i think you know why i must ask which do some of you think is better.........

Xenogears.....(and i'm being very bias, i know i am)...is the greatest game thus far in my gaming history......from the game play, to the music, to the (at the time) graphics.........to the reason why i've made this topic.......

it's story is just simply amazing, i mean, really...(if you haven't played it, dear god do it now, right now, you will not be dissapointed)...........

i have my little conflict when i see and realize how similiar the two story's are, yet i feel Xenogears is far, far better.........

so what do some of you all think...........

Xenogears the game was awesome, but I think it's kinda weird to compare anime VS game. It really depends much more on whether you prefer playing out your stories, or just watching them (That's why real hard-core gaming dorks, that like games because they're like....games, didn't like FFX. becasue you watched 80% of it. and it's too linear.)
Anyway, I'd don't think I'd be able to compare and contrast them fairly. Both are great.

And I like Eva, I just really didn't see why it needed the hype. That generally turns me off to things ^^.
Xenogears never had a hype (althoguh Xenosaga did. And I don't like Xenosaga. there's probably a connection there.)

Now if there was to be a Xenogears OVA or something.....That would be different.

I love Eva its in the running for my favorite anime ever (others are Elfen Lied FLCL and Tenchi <wierd combo I know>)

From what I played of 'gears it was good but I dont know something just didn't sit rite with me and I never finished it...which is rare I finish all games I get...even FFX-2.

well, i'm not really comparing the game vs. the anime. i mean, that would just be wrong, because personally i love to play more than i do watch...(like you said)

this was more or less the stories i was talking about. if there were to be a book called Xenogears, and a book called Evangelion, and you've read, or atleast gotten far enough in them both to have an idea of what they are about, which would be better.

and yeah, i hype for Eva was wwwwwwaaaaayyyyy overboard, but it was still kind of good.

and that Combo of Series is not weird at all, and dont say so again dear Sir. Elfen Lied is just simply amazing if you ask me. FLCL was just, well......it was FLCL, it's not to much more you can say about that...(that's a compliment), and Tenchi......come on know, who doesn't love Tenchi......(mainly Tenchi Muyo, adn Tenchi Universe for myself though)

and i finished FFX-2 as well, not the 100% ending, but i did get pretty close to it....i think like 96%, or something.....

you've got to finish Xenogears though Rhyus, it is worth every bit glory i bestowe upon it, trust me......

and ShikamaCHU, did you play Both Xenosaga's, i mean, they're no Xenogears, and the cut scene's are a blower......honestly i dont know why i do it.............i think its for the my attempts to reach a level of completions with the series......i'd say the story is good enough for my hours waisted watching the scenes........and the music is amazing........

I think I was at like 98% when i finished X-2 I was gonna go back and finish getting 100% but my friend showed me the 100% ending so that was the end of that...

I'll take your advice and finish gears when I get the chance but I just got a new job so I've been very busy lately ;;  I need more hours in the day...

And I was just saying the combo is wierd because they're ... i have blood on my hand... not even close to the same as one another so.... I dont know where i'm going with this anymore damn short attention span

I just play games to PLAY, not watch. When I wanna play a game, it's gotta be a real game, when I wanna watch anime, I don't want to have to figure game-y puzzles out (Like which stature to put the purple gem in. Just...wanna....Watch)

I don’t; think you can evaluate everything on story alone. I mean, there's character design and development, execution, everything. (Execution and composition are big ones for me. Like editing a movie. Without it, you've got lots of distraction.)
That's why I can’t compare them fairly. Game set-up just skews everything. Anime was made to be told, games are made to be solved. Some people like puzzling out their stories, other like it being told by a masterful composer, which makes things more powerful and cohesive with all the elements of storytelling, without having to stumble through bits.
The flows are entirely different, I I feel they're too important to the story.

Yea execution is a big one for me too. I mean who's ever heard of a game or anime without a few Executions. The Music Composer the Head of Art.... Ok but seriously...seriously...I seriously lost my train of thought thinking about game characters killing all the creators of the game lol F****** short attention span. Maybe I have ADD like my sister.

yes, that makes since, but when i said story i meant all that you mentioned i.e. character design, development, execution. but i do understand what you mean.........i figured the comparison would spawn the debate about the difference between games and anime and how you can't compare them.........

i dont know though, an anime where you had to get involved like you say..(gems and structures).....i hate to say it because i like the games..........but damnit if that doesn't make me think about Xenosaga........ ........

*roflmao* I'm sorry, I can't help it.... I LOVE Eva!! But have you ever loved something so much that you MUST make fun of it??? That's me and Eva all over. I think I just get sick of how "sacred" Eva is to some anime fans. But, dang, there ARE better shows. (It's VERY hard for her to like what is "popular")


Truth: I love Xenogears and Eva. Both of them were SO controversial they just HAD to be cool!

well dark, you definately seem biased towards Xenogears...however, I do think that Evangelion is overhyped.
i too have yet to finish the game, but its definately a great one. The ending of the game is going to clinch it for me, because unlike everyone I know, I believe that Neon Genesis Evangelion has the most brilliant ending of any anime in existence.
I also find it interesting that Shinji Ikari is much like Fei Fong Wong, personality-wise. If only he had someone like Citan around- he'd be in much better shape. (Citan is awesome!)

The whole giant robot thing, though- it gets kinda dull....   >_<;

if you havent seen eva well... I'll kill you... shame on you (mean ole no killing off friends rule ; you really should atleast in my opinion it is one of the best animes ever but i'm drawn to crazyness <Eva FLCL ect...> if for no other reason watch it for rei ^^

Best Use of a Song Frank Sinatra Sang in an Anime!!  "Fly Me To The Moon" is an awesome. In fact, I fell in love with it because of Eva! (Now, I'll always remember that song ... and I can always recognize a cover of it! Heard it in a classic episode of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman after I bought the 2nd season)

What's odd is, my mom likes Eva. (she "doesn't get" videogames ... and she WAS picky about her anime) But that was a precious moment . . . watching NGE for the first time and having the credits roll.

Mom: "That's Sinatra."

(thought my mom was deaf... I think that's when she was on heavy painkillers too) Me: "But this is an anime..."

*LOL* Waiting for the ending theme made EVA even more enjoyable for us. Especially since it was more often "FRY..." than anything. But I liked that concept ... a different version of the same song every episode. That was unique unto Evangelion.

I really liked EVA. It is one of my favorite animes and I actually plan on doing a cosplay from it for my next con.

Hold on, now that you mention it... there was a Shinji crossplayer at NDK. (were there schoolgirl Auska/Rei with her too?)


Hmmm.... I just had a disturbing thought.

I think I'd want to hug an EVA-unit01 cosplayer. Yeah. Doesn't phase me at all. (kinda cute, in a way *lol* as well as absolutely disturbing)
