ô.o I didn't think "The Pillows" were considered a J-Rock band...

Edit: Nevermind, I'm stupid. I was thinking "The Seatbelts" when I said that. XD

Hello Mr. PS, I have a question for you that came up in a discussion on the PS chat.  We were wondering what you thought of J-Rock...

It feels like a press conference in here! ^_^  What do I think about J-Rock?  Honestly, I'm too uneducated about the genre to say for sure!  Why don't you guys teach me about it?  You could post some links in the thread ^^

That is just some basic info.  I'm trying to dig up my final paper from my class last year on the symbolism and deeper meaning of it all.  The last link is a place to download an interview Kyo (vicalist from Dir en Grey) did that I thought might be somewhat interesting *shrugs*, its a very small file ^ ^

One more to add.  I'm doing all Dir en Grey cuz it's what I know more about.  It may seem kinda dark, but it's not really.  They use all these words to make it seem so on the profile, but what I understand is they are kinda talking about conformity to social norms and suppression of the self by society (gosh, this sounds a whole bunch like Emerson.....)

A bunch of the J-Rock music is kinda like this, almost like psychedelics in the US, rebellion (kinda).  That people are different and we all don't hafta be a certain way.  I hope that makes sense; I have a hard time wording things sometimes *is a science major, not english*And I just posted 3 times in the past hour......O.o, gomen...

I can say, with pride, that I showed a collage of visual kei J-Rocker pictures (DeG, Malice Mizer, and Psycho le Cemu) to my Intro to Political Science class for a presentation on Japan...and saw an almost unanimous look of surprise when I mentioned that they were all male. :mrgreen: That was hilarious.

Oh, and I saw that interview with DeG! I have all 6 episodes of that BBC show! It's called "Japanorama" and it's....really unique. XD

It was a group presentation on the political culture of different countries. Ours was Japan. We explained things like education, the National Diet (parliament), history of democracy in the country and how it was practically forced on Japan after WWII. I managed to include how there was a gap between the more traditional adult culture and the youth culture, and how since the youth would someday take over, it was good to show how their current lifestyle differences and subcultures could affect their attitudes in the future. I mentioned J-Rock/Visual Kei, Kogal/Ganguro Girls, EGL, and otaku as a few of them. ^^ I think it definitely made our project a little more interesting to the class, at least. ^^;
