Okay, so I want to record stuff on piano for submission. What's the best (cheapest) way to do it? Get a hold of a laptop and a microphone, and use sndrec? Or are there easier ways to get it done? I'm on a college campus, so the pianos I'm playing on are in the basement of a building about 5 minutes (walking) from my dorm room.

You should check with your college.  A lot of schools have recording hardware for student use.  That and all the video/audio editing you should ever need.

Wow, I'm dumb. :p

Good idea. I'll check around with the music staff. I'm set in terms of editing though. I've got this sweet little program called "GoldWave" - it caters to every editing issue I've ever come across (which means cuts and fades).

...

*Shameless plug* You can get a free trial of it at www.goldwave.com. And when I say "free trial" I don't mean "30 days" or whatever. They have a little counter, so you can take 150 actions in a single session and 3000 actions until you need to buy a license. I've never gotten to the 150 point, let alone the 3000 point. If you do a lot of editing, you could buy a license, it's $45... I would buy one, but, I'm a poor college student.
