Harry Potter evil? Yes. Because there's nothing more evil than an educated person, and how do people get educated? They read. What's Harry Potter making kids do? READ. I believe the only evil here is the habit that just might carry over into young adulthood and beyond. The books make you think, make you speculate: what's going to happen next? They force you to open your mind to new avenues of thought, which just might be applied to every day life, like when reading a newspaper. :::gasp!::: Imagine....
I don't understand how people don't understand that the Harry Potter series is fictional and nothing more. Or, maybe it's just because that I'm evil and have read the heading in the library "Fiction" where you can find the books. I don't know what concrete evidence there is about the books being evil -- because nowhere in his letters did Cardinal Ratzinger ever mention anything specific; granted it was more than likely understood by Ms. Kuby, but still -- or against Christianity. The students and teachers at Hogwarts (and Durmstrang and Beauxbatons) don't "worship" anything. In fact, religion is hardly mentioned at all in the books, other than Christmas vacation and presents. Sure, Christmas at Hogwarts isn't exactly all "YAY JESUS! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" but it isn't that way in lots of places.
But no matter what, it matters little. Even for those who burn the Potter books, what does JK care? It's just a few more quid (slang for pounds... haha. You learned something today) in her rather large bank account. A sale is a sale, and that's all that matters. Besides, any publicity is good publicity. If you've been living under a rock for the past eight years (oh my gosh!), and see something like this, you're surely going to wonder, "What's Harry Potter?" and then pick up a book. Then, if you like it, you'll pick up the next and the next and JK's wallet gets fatter. All from making you try to think that the books are evil.
Only on your wallet, maybe. ^_^
