I play the piano (have been for the past 10 years), and I'm pretty serious about it. I don't practice a lot- unless you consider about 30 minutes per day a lot- but through experimentation and an EXCELLENT teacher, I've gained a pretty good level of ability. I've participated three times in NYSSMA, a statewide musical evaluation program, and performed on the hardest level possible getting an 'A' score each time. I've also accompanied for a jazz band and jazz choir, and played at various events like dinners. I am planning on playing at parties professionally next, as my teacher is moving soon, and is willing to give me his old gigs.
However, I would not want to pursue the piano as a career. I do enjoy it very much, I attend recitals, and like playing for other people, but I don't think I have the time needed to keep a full library of pieces in top shape. Right now, I am working on the Hungarian Rhapsody #2, and that is hard enough to maintain without having to worry about keeping the entire Sonata Pathetique and Rhapsody in Blue in good condition (both of which I've played, but now make a lot of mistakes on).
I've also played the tuba and flute before, and I know a little bit about guitar and drums. My knowledge of music theory and composition is average, but substantial enough that I'm able to compose basic original music. Right now, I foresee my musical future lying more in the realm of electronic music (which I am currently focused on) than piano, but I will undoubtedly do both. I would love to submit recordings of various vg/anime songs I bang out on the piano, also; prior to this site, there was no place for me to display them.
In terms of the kind of music I play; I like jazz and classical for the piano, focusing mainly on classical since it's most showy. However, I do enjoy playing game and anime tunes and putting a spin on them, and I'm a fan of a lot of Broadway and oldies music. Music I compose is entirely electronica in nature, such as dance, trance, drum and bass, and electro. However, recently I have attempted orchestral and ambient, and I think I might keep at it.
