I don't know where else to put this, but I was just seeing how many people are as obsessed with JRock as me, in particular Dir en Grey.

Hmmmm... is Do As Infinity counted as JRock or JPop? I can't really tell the difference between the two. They're one of my favorite bands. I need to find more of their music, in fact. My most favorite band is Buzy, though. Not many people have heard of them but I just love their songs. They're definitely JPop, though.

OK.  I have always been wondering why people who like JRock tend to say they like it better than American music.  I was wondering what part of it you guys like.

I like the fact that it's different. Doesn't neccessarily have to rhyme or anything. Only think I can't stand about jrock or vk is the annoying fangirls.

i think of it as an equal to our music, other in soundtracks or just normal american music. there are only 2 kinds of music, good music, and bad music. it goes for all genres as well.

I guess I'm more of a J-pop person, because I don't like all the Frilly Voice-destroying (Even though J-Pop isn't Innocent of that either *coughorangerange'ssqueakymancoughlikeOW* the J-Rock stuff tends to have. Or the Low voiced whining thing.
I'm a 'Cute voice' person, and therefore Love Porno Graffiti with a passion that squishes Large Takoyaki stands and other places that serve yicky food.
I WILL say Asian Kung Fu Generation is my Squishy pants.
Because they are awesome.

J-pop is happy because it tends to be really good...Like whatever this song about Sake is I'm listening to.

I have to say J-rock clothes are (for the most part) really cool, even if the singers suck at pulling it off.
Just for that, I plan to check out more.

If we're going ahead and mentioning both (Not like anyone is a Rock/pop Nazi, since they mix in the top 20s all the time anyway), then I'd say my Top three J-anything  are...

1. Porno Graffiti
3. Pillows
....um...Either Bump of Chicken or Undergraph...Or Asia Kung Fu...then there's Kinki kids.....Smap and Chage&Asksa....
Apparently (I didn't think that out all the way) I need to fid a Definite #3.

Just...not Glay *shudder* or La~rc *Shudderyshudder*.

As for liking these things better than American Music...Personally, I just tend to find that Japanese Artists can actually sing. Singing seems to be a HUUUGE part of the culture. I mean, it's everywhere, and a lot more people practice it more. That's really the difference.
So like, they can actually hold a tune, they like catchy tunes...And Melodies.
Less Rap.....
It just seems like they still have fun with their Music.
I'm not saying Non-Japanese stuff is bad; in fact, I listen to both a lot. Personally, I like weird Music that doesn’t fall in any particular Category (Except for the General ones like...'Music...' That's always a good one) so Like...Whatever's weird.
America's industry kinda stifles a lot of the weird stuff, as they don't think It'll sell....But every once in awhile you'll find something Indie, or just otherwise awesome from outta nowhere and you'll find hope for the American Industry.
And let’s not forget emo-y Very much like J-Rock Stuff except not in Japanese, like Interpol....Which is awesome. 'Cause he manages to whine without Whining.

I think some people like the Japanese stuff better because they don't know how whiney it is. When you think about it, all those scary fangirls probably don't have any grasp of what they're saying, and if they do, it's vague. One of the great things about Japanese music is that you don't, or can pretend really hard, that you don't know how incredibly corny and frighteningly similar (Lyrically) their songs are.
So long as there's Natto on this planet, Japanese got no right to say jack to anybody about food.

Yes, good points.  I don't see all JRock as very whiny.  In fact, I see it more as an artistic way of expressing their views on society and certain issues, which is really cool.  And then they dress f-in awesome, and they can actually SING.  The music is so much better than what a lot of American music is today, though not all, cuz I do listen to some.

I'm not exactly 'obsessed' with J-Rock... but heres my shpeel on Non-English Music (that does have vocals)

It's like any music without vocals.  Being that I can't understand it at all, to me, it might as well be scat.  I don't know what it means, so it's basically just rythmic noises that give off emotion.  The emotion from the un-understandable lyrics is just as interpretable as some fancy Euro-Trance beat or MIDI Compisition... or Harmonica song, or Piano Squall, or basically any music.  I happen to listen to a lot of techno, trance, game music (that lacks lyrics) and music in other languages as well.  It's not saying that English music is bad, but you can still get the emotional vibe off of the Japanese lyric even when you cant understand it.

That's why I like it, although my friends cant understand why I listen to music I can't understand ^^

I am so surprised that no one here is into an of the revolutionary groups that allowed JROCK to become the genre it is today.

From groups like Laputa (super visual kei), Buck Tick (still alive and rocking), or Mr. Children (okay not so hardcore, but they could when they wanted to be).

Personally for me

Laputa - E.M.A.D.A.R.A

with tracks like EVE, and Monochrome opened the way for other bands that now currently grace the J-Rock genre.

Maturity is in the eye of the beholder, which should not be seen merely by peeking glances through authoritative fingers.
