2nd attempt to air Escaflowne
« on: July 04, 2005, 03:29:50 PM »
Hey, I was just watching Adult Swim last night and I saw they're planning to show Escafolwne on Adult Swim.  That got me really exited.  Because if it's on Adult Swim it will be more or less intact.  I've heard that when they aired Escaflowne on FOX a few years ago it was heavily edited with lots of stuff missing.  And yet I loved what I saw on FOX.  If this is the original stuff they're going to show then it must be insanely good.  I'm very exited.

Oooh! I really hope they show it uncut! I saw a little of the FOX version and I wanted to whack my head on a wall. FOX should not get anime that they feel the need to completely rearrange.

That's cool. I've actually been wanting to re-watch Escaflowne. But I'd borrow my friends DVD's so I could watch the sub. Dubs make me cry.

Speaking of Adult Swim, though... I heard that they have plans to air Evangelion un-edited. That should really be interesting.

Eh...they'd be better off with RahXephon. RahXephon is like EVA, only with a less incoherant plot and more likeable characters.Gooooooo, Ayato! Gooooo, Haruka!

I really think it's cool that RahXephon is actually getting popular now. I bought it back when it first came out on DVD and I thought it would be kind of a sleeper title. But it seems to be gaining in popularity.

Regardless, Rah loses MAJOR points for unoriginality. It resembles an improved version of Eva because it borrowed SOOO much from Eva. As such, Eva still wins the gold for being the original.

However, both shows should really be shown uncut on TV. Eva is already hugely popular here, and being shown on Adult Swim would boost that popularity through the roof.

Hey, Rah's still pretty darn creative in its own right! The whole love thing that was practically the backbone of the show was really creative in my opinion. I'd get more in depth, but it's hard to do that without giving away spoilers and I don't even want to give people the chance to highlite white text when they haven't seen it yet.

I guess if I were to watch both Eva and Rah without having ever seen either of them before, and with no prior knowledge of either of them... I would probably enjoy the first half or 2/3rds of Eva most, but after finishing both shows, I would probably say that Rah was better. It really is more enjoyable. But I still say that Eva is better because it was the original, and Rah (even though it had a lot of original stuff) borrowed from Eva a LOT.

Eva's ending just... blew chunks...

Escaflowne on FOX really got my friend into anime. He now has all the DVDS of Escaflowne uncut and everything. He loves that series. Now he's collecting Kiddy Grade and Full Metal Panic, also great animes.

You show my point once again zeldafanatic15.  As much as some people love to hate anime that's been heavily edited, it brings in more fans of the original unedited show.  It's a double edged sword.
By the way, why do you suppose FOX stopped airing Escaflowne after only a few episodes?  I heard an idea that the storyline was too deep and complex for the children who they aimed that show at.

As much as I dislike poorly dubbed anime, (and DESPISE when anime is visually edited), I think it's still a good thing. Like, a necessary evil. Because showing the anime on TV boosts its popularity, which in turn means more money for the American anime industry, which means that more anime gets licensed, which means that the Japanese anime industry gets more profit, which means they can make more good anime.

I just wish they didn't have to dub and edit the stuff to show it on TV... but then again... a lot less people would watch it on TV if it were in Japanese...

Americans are lazy, and hate reading.

I entertained the thought of making kids watch T.V. subtitled, as it would raise the literacy level.
Learning and T.V. should be further intertwined.

People blame T.V. for kids being idiots and not reading, then why don't you make them read T.V.?
Sure they'd get pissed, but what are they gonna do? Stop watching cartoons and like...READ?

HA! Reading wins.

Too bad it'll never happen.

I admit... without FOX airing superedited Escaflowne... I would have never loved it so much!!! (I got to see the first 9 episodes, minus ep1 twice!!) Then, it was gone!! Poof!!! Wanting to know more about Esca is what enveloped be in the online world. I learned about the edits (how ep1 was never shown, the soundtrack as well as animation was edited, and how it had a different opening) *lol* Actually, I have the FOX opening on my computer.... *hehheh* But "Yakusoku wa Iranai" is fantastic!!

I'm so glad Bandai rereleased the dvds in a perfect collection!! ^_^ (wish it didn't come with the movie though... I bought the spec. ed. for the soundtrack)

Personally, I'd rather Adult Swim brought back GundamWing "uncuts." ('cause I miss 'em! *lol* I LOVED watching each ep twice... once cut, then "uncut" at night:)

As for Rahxephon vs Evangelion....

Evangelion "borrowed" most of its soundtrack from classical composers. So there. *lol* Though I have to admit, I love the "Ode to Joy" fight scenes! The problem with Eva was the movie... End of Evangelion. If any of you heard what Matt Greenfield, co-founder of AVDFilms, had to say... you realize that EofE should have never been made!! It was only made to spite fans that sent in death threats. *sheesh* Personally, I liked the series ending and thought it was much happier!!

Rahxephon is called a copy of Eva. I hate that. I enjoy Rah more overall. Which one do I actually own??? I bought the new condensed Rahxephon collection the day it came out. What I like is that the Rahxephon series and movie have different versions of a happy ending. (yes, overall the movie is just a highly condensed version of the series... but there are many new scenes!!) Besides, Rahxephon has a unique musical theme running through it as well as a neat love story. Why is it so different?? Ayato is 17, not 14 like Shinji. Something that Rahxephon has that no other anime has.... a south american influence!! (Was it Incan or Mayan??)

Maybe oneday I'll get Eva when it's re-rereleased as a platinum collection, but until then... I'll let the real world depress me instead. Rahxephon fills me with much more hope.

(I've watched the dubbs and subbs, so what's my weird anime watching habit of late?? Watching the dubb with subtitles... just 'cause I can!! *lol* I love dvds...)

You know what was cool though?? Watching uncut DragonBallZ episodes on the old "International Channel" in japanese.... without subtitles!! *lol*

Gee, I wonder what Bulma meant when she said... "Bejita, ai-shiteru!!" *snickers* Back then, the only other words I knew were swear words and simple phrases like "Daijoubu desu ka?" and "Nani??" *lmao*

*blinks* I know nothing.

So in closing.... make kids watch anime without subtitles.... but in japanese.
*evil chuckles*

Speaking of 'South American Inufluence'...

This is taken out my LJ....

______________________________________

So…The History test was the next day, and I decided I would help chizuru study.
I decide I’ll start with something I thought would be funny, and raise spirits.

On the paper, I spy a map of South America.

So, I point to the whoooooole continent.

“Hey Chizuru, What is this?” (ne ne Chizu-chan. Kore wa Nani?)
She stares blanky…..

“Uuuh….The name…Of this place….. (Anoooooooo…..Kore Bashou no...Namae?) (yay for butchered Japanese! It’s what Diana’s do best at Butchering…Although Dokuro-chan….0_0…..)

Staring blankly….

“um....You okay?” (Oi….Heiki?) I talk like a boy….>_<

She SPEAKS!

“Uh…..er…um…Florida?” (Sono….Ano…eee……Furorida?)

……

…..

…..

“Um…That…That…That……No. That’s a little wrong.” (Muh?...Sore..Sore…Wa…Ano…uuuuuh…..Iya…Chotto chigau….)
“AH? Really? Oh um…NEW YORK.” (EHHH? Hounto ka? Sa, New-yooku!!)
“Uh…It’s not America…” (Ano…America ja nakute….)
“HAH? I got it! Disney Land!” (HAH? Wakatta! Di-su-ni-Ran-do!)
“……”
……

I was like…Does she REALLY not know what this place is?
I mean…It’s a CONTINENT.

“Is that a real answer?” (“Honmono no Kotae?”)
“Of course….Anyway, it’s not part of the exam.”(“Mochiron…Tonikaku, Kore fukumu ja nai da yo….(Or something like that))
“Yeah but, it’s like…IMPORTANT” (Demo…Demo…Daiji na)
“I’m Japanese, that place isn’t important.”
(Iin desu yo, Nihonjin dakara, ano bashou wa konkenai.)

Like…WOAH

I’m like…So what? We know about places that aren’t us…LIKE THIS PLACE HERE.

So I told her it was a continent (Tairiku da YO.)
She had no idea.

I told her it was South America….She’s never heard of it…Or Mayans, or Incas, or Aztecs…Or anything…..

This…Is just wrong. None of the others kids I asked (Including my Host family) knew what I was pointing to and no one’s heard of Brazil.

Japan really DOES only care about France, China, America…. Korea ,Australia, and Germany…(every once in a while.)

I didn’t know you could have THAT little knowledge of the world, and Japan isn’t even anywhere near the most isolated country anymore.

Shucky dangs.

Scary huh?
The only other Anime I know of with a South American influence or theme is Nazca

Hahaha... that story is so good, it deserves to be posted both in your LJ and here... everyone needs to read it.

As for Rahxephon vs Evangelion....

Evangelion "borrowed" most of its soundtrack from classical composers. So there. *lol*
Haha, true... well, not "most", but some... Evangelion did have a lot of good original music. My personal favorite was "Hedgehog's Dilemma." Yay for smooth jazz.

It surprises me how many people prefer the series ending over the movie. I mean, I thought the series ending was like, UBER boring. It put me to sleep. The movie, on the other hand, had some fighting and stuff in the first half, so I liked it more. I guess it's a matter of personal preference. I don't really care whether an ending is sad or happy so I prefer the ending with more action.  :D

RahXephon sort of copied Eva, and then changed everything. Eva had biblical references - Rah had a musical theme and references to the religion of some South American civilization. (Don't remember which one.) Rah had a love story - Eva had an obsession story. (I think that's the best way to describe the relationship between Shinji and Asuka.) Eva had angels - Rah had Dolems. Eva had Evangelions - Rah had RahXephon. It's not really that RahXephon COPIED Eva. It's more like, they were both built from the same model, but using different ingredients.

(I've watched the dubbs and subbs, so what's my weird anime watching habit of late?? Watching the dubb with subtitles... just 'cause I can!! *lol* I love dvds...)
Hahaha... my friend used to watch dubbed anime with the subtitles turned on...

I find that kind of.... weird..........

I also find dubs kind of, uhh... what's the word? "Needing to be burned", or something like that.

I think if I had already watched a show, like, 3 times, I would watch it in Japanese with no subs. I mean, by the third time through, you know what's going on, right? When you watch with no subs you can actually like, look at the pretty pictures and stuff...
