Loool, and having to blow into the cartridges so they didn't look like big blobs ... or at least more like real people ... well now stuff like the PSII works fine 'cept it lags on one game with me ... Dynasty Warriors Four. Besides that, completely peeeerrrrfect! ^.^

Hmmm... I'd have to say it was Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time...that kinda eased me into rpg's even though it isn't one. But my first real RPG was probably Legend of Dragoon. Oh...one of my favorites. so good! ~~John

Final Fantasy VII!

Back in 1997, I had never even heard of the game or the RPG genre until my friend got a copy of FFVII from Malaysia and I was like, hmm....this seems quite cool. So we played it more and more and then I just had to borrow it!

Although I think it possibly is the greatest game of all time though, I have never bought it. I got the Limited Edition of FFVIII though ^_^

Definitely FF4, and it also got me started on game music too.  I remember thinking I was so clever for finding the townsperson that taught me how to hold down L1 and R1 to run away from battle, and not understanding that you needed to gain levels to beat bosses, I just ran every single time.  Eventually I got to the dark elf (around level 5 or something) and... well... that was the end of FF4 for a few years. ^_^

Ohhh man FF4 was the *wark* =P I remember oooo what was her name....asura? boss before leviathen (spelling?) Man, me and my friend spent SOO long trying to figure out how to win that battle =P I went back and played that game again not too long ago.... beat it in like 2 days =P (woot for fast forward button on emulators =P) but none of these are REAL rpgs anyways when u really think about it =P what is an RPG, a role-playing game. BUt ur not really PLAYING a role, jus  kinda watching it happen. sure you do the fights, but thats not role-playing. You don't choose what to say, cept rarely in newer games, but even then, u have a list of choices.  oh well =P theyre still fun =) and i still love em.

My first RPG was Willow for Nintendo (based on the movie of the same title) I remember renting it, because I was such a fan of the movie, but i also remember just wandering about not knowing what to do, since at the time my game was Mario bros 1 and Duck Hunt  :P goodness, i feel old now...

Needless to say I didnt get really into RPGs til I played Wild Arms for PS1, i think i was a freshman in high school then...

I guess I'm the old, weird one here... my first RPG was... THE first RPG, haha. Dragon Warrior. Yep, I was playing RPG's since the very beginning. That was a good series too... then I jumped onto the Square series like FF and then the rest was history...

Heh, same here, Sorjai.  I still have fond memories of Dragon Warrior.  From there I went on to the Final Fantasy series - I do agree that FFs are more like interactive novels than actual roleplaying games, but they're still a load of fun, and I still enjoy them.  As for true RPGs, I enjoyed Fallout, Fallout 2, and I'm now having a perpetual blast with Morrowind  :)
Cheers,

dragon warrior was cool, but yeah, like some others, the final fantasy series really got me into RPGs like never before. I thought FF4 was a breakthrough with the storyline integrated into the game. That's why I've been a loyal fan ever since :).

Mario RPG for the SNES baby. I have an intresting story though about my rpg-ing. Way back in the day I hated Play Station, and also back in the day, I hated all final fantasies. ::ducks and runs while entire board throws stuff:: BUT, after playing Mario RPG, I read online that if you liked that game, play Crono Trigger and FF3(6). So I find myself a copy of Crono Trigger and loved it (never got all the endings though, o well, maybe someday) but i was still wanting more RPGs. So Im faced with FF3, i look at it and say "well its on nintendo, so it must be worth a shot" and that shot nearly blew me away. wow, what a game. so from that point on, i heart Final Fantasy, all of them, and I heart my PS1. (hopefully this summer ill get a ps2 and play FF10)

Hehe, I guess I'm kinda a freak on this one...has anyone ever heard of a playstation 1 rpg called monsterseed? That was my first rpg ever. It was really cheap and badly made, but extremely addictive, I think I gave it away though. Too bad, it would probably bring back a lot of funny memories...

In college, you learn new things and experiment, most likely with your friends at the root of the situation. LOL. Actually, Alex (two posts up) MADE me play FF6 this year. Well, he didn't make me, but he started pushing me to play RPGs, and FF6 was the one I got (yay ROMs!! He also got me Chrono Trigger, but I played that for about ten minutes before I was all "Can I play FF6 now?"). I haven't finished, lol, I'm only halfway through it, but ... yeah. That was my first (and only, sorta). I wish I had it for SNES, now. Mine still works. ^_^ Then I started looking for MIDIs so I could play the music....

I want to get through all the Final Fantasy-s ("Why is it called Final Fantasy if there are, like, a million of them?") eventually.

Unless Zelda counts as an RPG. Then Zelda 1 was my first. Christmas '88, baby. Whoo!

I guess the first one I played was either Phantasy Star or Miracle Warriors for the Master System, but those didn't really get me into RPGs.  I saw an ad for Mario RPG and really wanted to try it, and my friend said he'd let me borrow it.  Next day, he brings me Final Fantasy III(VI).  I was disappointed, but I figured I'd try it anyway.  Most amazing game and I was hooked from then on.  That was ummm, '96 I guess?  Not sure, long time ago.
