Anyone know of any male vocal pieces? They're really hard to find! The only one I can think of is Draco's part from the Aria in FF6.

Singing female parts is challenging in that they seem to hover around my breaking points in my voice.

I find that with songs like that you just have to bring your voice down an octave lower, while singing in the same key. This is what I need after memorizing a few of the Lunar songs. Though I understand your problem, because some of those songs have a really high pitch.

It's not the range that's a problem for me. I can do baritone, tenor, alto... and when a guy sings the same notated pitch, it's an octave down from the female. So a C in the staff for a tenor produces the same note as an Alto's C under the staff.

The part that makes it hard to sing is that the female singers have a certain quality to their voice, perhaps a husky popish quality... that makes it hard to do. I have no problems with the Aria from FF6, but Eyes and Melodies are a pain to do...

Well, you don't necessarily have to recreate the same voice quality as the singer. If I was to take change the world and sing it, I would put my own style into it rather than imitate the original singer. Same thing with some Japanese songs I sing. Some of the vocalisits have a very nasal sound that I can imitate, but I don't always like it, so I add a bit of my own style to it.

I think the big problem is it's pop.

My classical voice is > than my pop voice. That's why I have no problems singing the aria with no problem. If I were to write down all the repetoire I've performed in the past 2 years, the "poppiest" pieces would be "Unchained Melody" or... most likely when I played Roger from Rent... but while Rent was poppy, the style was more musical...

If male classical is good, then the ending theme from Mononoke-Hime is PERFECT! Yes, I didn't even know this at first, but "Mononoke-Hime" is sung by a man. I sang it as my solo for my last high school choir concert ever, and even my choir director was surprised to hear that the recording I gave her was a man. ^_^

Yep! I actually sang that one too on friday and sunday. I have been classically trained for more than 5 years, and now I am training myself to adapt a bit of a pop sound for some of my Otaku Duet songs. I don't like Jade's rendition of Real Emotion though. Its just a bit too brittany spears or christina agulera for me, ugh. Same thing for 1000 Words. Koda Kumi sounds a lot better I think.
