Pre-Alpha The Forever Curse
« on: February 28, 2005, 02:57:56 PM »
I have finalized the Database Reader to access the database, which is currently empty.  I will be giving the first 10 people administrator right to this database that are interested and post back here as such.  Any of the other people who post interest after the first 10 will become readers only.  The database will need to be filled with different and appropriate items.  Mind you the first 10 administrator will be able to create there own character on the database, and hence will be able to play the game first when released to pre-alpha.

I have released another version of the PowerPoint slide which is in the same place.

http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gte434z/TheForeverCurse.ppt

I am restarting the graphics design for the game and will need a 3-D artist that specializes in making semi-detail humans, clothes, and accessory.  While I will sooner or later need a lot of different figures at this point I am just looking for one human with some clothes & no accessory needed that in 3-D that I might be able to export into *.vo file.  But the file transfer can be worked on.

I have created the zip file for the Database_Reader which requires the new Java 5.0, which means you must have that version installed to run the jar file.  Anyrate if you have no clue about Java and can't figure out how to get Java 5 @ http://java.sun.com.  Than AIM me at RoadrunnerWAN, and I will send you out the full 99 MB zip file that includes installation of Java.

http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gte434z/DatabaseReader_wo_Java.zip

The 'without' just means that the Java Installer is not included in the zip file.  To run the three jar files just use the bat file provided as long as your on a Windows machine.   I have decided to make a guest account to only read the database, which will have an username of 'Guest'(capital G required) and a password of 'squallviewers'.  If there are any questions or you want to start updating this very empty database just make a post.

I have fixed multiple errors in the reader now.  I have re-started the database to express tables as tables instead of them reading as databases.  Any rate you can use the Guest account when ever you want, but the database is empty once again after running initial tests.  For those users that can already insert rows into the database make sure for any ID field you just type 0.  If you type anything else I might have to start the database from scratch again.  While its not a bug that you need to put a 0 there I have yet to check it as a criteria so Java will take any number for now, I will change this in another patch.

I added another set of updates that dealt with refreshing and a minor insert issue had an 'i' where I should of had a 'j'.  I have finished the gem section of the database and will do the metal and raw materials myself.  While some of you may have access to write to these tables most likely anything you add will just be deleted because those three database is a main part of the game that I have already worked out.  I am looking for fresh idea in Equipment and Monster tables the most.  User tables has a slight flaw that it does not save the password encrypted yet so I would not add anything there unless you want everyone know your password ideas.

Onion did you get a chance to look at it?  Also, do you want me to set you up an administrator account?

I know I have not been talking about anything too much I was hoping some people would download the reader test it out, and tell me whether they could use it.  And basically post some feedback here.  If you could at least test the java application reguardless of what your interest, I would most appreciate it.

This week I will start on making the inital building editor, also when I go home for spring break I will be running CVS through SSH on Cygwin on a Windows 2003 Server.  So hopefully that will increase my code production.

As with the Teamspeak server, the MySQL Server is also down.  Luckily I have backups of the MySQL server info.  If anyone cares :(
